The Magnos

Mercury Blood

The large tree began to shake violently. Leaves turned brown and fell at an incredible rate, leaving its branches without any. The bark turned from a healthy colour to a sickly dark brown covered in yellowish spots. The tree was aging before their very eyes.

Once the shaking stopped, a low growl began to escape from the tree. A thin line appeared in the centre that extended from top to bottom. The line began to spread rapidly, creating a human sized opening on the tree, big enough for whatever was inside to come out.

The Ancient of the Forest, more commonly known as the protector of the northern wilderness had awoken. Its body seemed to be entirely made out of oak wood with leaves flourishing around its neck and on its upper back. Its thin frame pulled itself out of the tree and stood to a full height of 6 feet. Its glowing green bug like eyes checked the surroundings for the offenders but it could not see them, though they had not left the forest yet.

”Can someone explain to me why we
e running?! ” Jonathan asked as he struggled to keep up with the other three who had a higher physicality than him.

Once the tree had started shaking, Sola yelled for them to run as far away from it as they could get. Of course, the red haired boy could see the visible fear on his face, he just didn know what could be scary enough to put the grey haired berserker on the run.

”Natural forces that have been around for a very long time develop a collective consciousness after a certain hundred years! ” Fólórunsó explained. ”They
e tasked with protecting their source in times of danger. They
e called Ancients. ”

”Lumberjacks and other what nots come here all the time. How come we
e getting attacked? ” Francine asked.

”Raudis has a life time contract with all there surrounding natural bodies. The Ancient won attack unless provoked. ”

A dull boom quaked the wilderness, making the leaves rustled.

”We can out run it. ” Sola said. ”Fólórunsó, take Jonathan as far away from here as you can. ”

”What about you?! ” He exclaimed.

”Francine and I will hold it off for as long as we can. Well be fine, I promise. ”

Fólórunsó was torn apart. He knew he could not do anything against the Ancient but he did not want to leave his friend behind. With no other choice available, he grabbed the red head boys hand and continued to run forward. If anyone could survive an Ancient attack, it would be Sola.

”So what now? ” Francine asked.

”Just follow my lead. ” He replied.

The Ancient leapt into the air and came crashing down like a meteor from space. Its impact created another booming sound. Standing before it was a dark skinned male with grey hair and no clothes to cover his upper body or feet. With no one else around, the nature entity assumed this was the being who awoke it.

In one swift move, the Ancient was in front of the male. It swung its arm and punched the male in the face. The force made his face ripple and the ground beneath him to crack. To its surprise, the attack seemed to have no effect on him.

”That hurt less than I expected. ” The male said.

He drew back his hand and landed a punch in the Ancient abdomen. The force lifted the entity of nature into the air. In one swift action, he leapt after it and knocked it into the ground.

The Ancient was fairly surprised by the homo sapiens strength. However it did not change the fact that it was dying here.

Roots sprouted from the ground and wrapped themselves around the males arms, legs and torso. When he pulled against them they wrapped tighter around him, visibly twisting his skin. As the Ancient stood to his feet, a strange green energy gathered around his fists. The males eyes widened as he saw his opponent harness Revel.

Revel, the force that created that ever was, is and will be. A few adepts were able to harness it to accomplish incredible feets without the aid of technology. With Revel one could harness the elements of the world, manipulate the concepts of the world and increase their physical capabilities and being a representation of nature, Ancients excelled at its use.

The males chest was struck with a Ravel powered punch. The energy of creation surged through out his body and even into the roots holding him. The roots blew apart due to the vast amount of power entering them.

The Ancient gathered more Revel into its feet and and kicked the male. The energy flew through him, shooting an emerald coloured shock wave out of his back. His body seized up as he flew into the air and crashed loudly into the ground.

Damn it, those guys better be out of here by now. Sola thought to himself.

Fólórunsó ran breathlessly as he led Jonathan as far from the Ancient as possible. He had no idea how far he had gone but he knew he could not stop yet.

”Let me go! ” Jonathan yelled as he tried to break free from the boys grip. ”I can handle myself! ”

The dark haired boy grabbed his red head employer by the collar of his shirt and slammed him into a nearby tree. Fury blazed brightly in his eyes and he drew dep breaths.

”Do you think if you could handle yourself wed be running away?! ” He fumed. ”Because of you and your brain dead bimbo, we
e facing an unstoppable force of nature and you want fight me over restricted movement?! ”

”You have no right to talk to me like that! ” Jonathan yelled.

”I will talk to you however I want to! ” The darker skinned boy replied. ”If Sola does because of this, I don care what kind of dirt you have on me or what family you
e from! I will kill you! ”

Jonathan glared at Fólórunsó. Who was this pleb who felt he could insult an Immortalis just because he was buddy-buddy with someone like Sola. His focus shifted from the boy in front of him to something behind him. What he saw made his eyes widen.

”Watch out! ” He exclaimed. However, it was already too late.

A small bladed projectile flew from out of the shadows and imbedded itself in the back of Fólórunsós head. He made no sound as he fell to the ground. Blood began to ooze out of the injury that was made from the impact.

The red head boy eyes filled with fear. Even if Fólórunsó was not as strong as Sola, his perception should at least be comparable because of his archery skills. Whoever could kill him in one hot was most definitely formidable.

”That was easier than I expected. ” A voice said from within the darkness of the wilderness.

From the shadows came forth Fólórunsós killer. A young man covered by a dark cloak that hid his body and part of his face. From what Jonathan could see, he was of the same skin tone as the person he just killed.

”W-who are you? ” Jonathan stuttered.

The man smiled. ”Is that important? You
e about to die anyways. ”

”Y-you think you can kill an I-i-imortalis? Y-you must be brain dead. ”

”But you aren at the age where you can die yet, are you? ” He asked.

Jonathan gulped loudly. His bluff had been called. Indeed he could regenerate at an accelerated rate but he couldn prevent his death with his healing factor.

In an instant, the cloaked man was in front of the Immortalis. He grabbed his throat and lifted him into the air. Jonathan gasped for air as he tried to break free from his attackers grip. The mans hand did not even shake from all the hits it received.

The cloaked pulled out his other hand which held a short and curved blade in it.

”Good bye, young Immortalis. ” He said.

Jonathan closed his eyes, waiting for the cold embrace of death to take him to the other side. He was surprised to find that he did not feel as a pierce throughout any part of his body. He opened his eyes and was shocked by the sight he beheld.

Holding the the cloaked mans wrist , keeping the blade inches away from Jonathans body was none other than Fólórunsó. The back of his head was covered in blood but it had stopped bleeding. His eyes were filled with enough killing intent to pierce through the man in front of him.

The man could not hide his surprise either. He was sure he has hit the boy precisely in a spot that should have killed him instantly.

”You
e pretty interesting kid! ” He laughed. ”Ill humour you by telling you my name. I am the assassin named Ikú- death in the old tongue. ”

”I don care if you
e name meant god in any language. ” Fólórunsó growled. ”You
e going to die. ”
