The Magnos

The Man Named Death

Sola panted heavily as he faced off with the Ancient of the northern wilderness. The ground was cracked and the surrounding trees were broken from the impact of their attacks. After all the hits he had received, the grey haired boy was still yet to bleed, which puzzled the Ancient. No homo sapien he had fought before him was able to withstand his first punch, so what made him so different?

Veins began to buldged all around the boys body, seemingly increasing his size. The sound of the blood rushing through him could audibly heard. It sounded like a space crafts engine ready to take off.

”Lets see how long I can make this adrenaline rush last. ” He said.

With a clench of his muscles, he mad the ground beneath break with the sheer force he was generating. In a near flash like movement, he was in front of the Ancient. He swung his bulging fist into the entitys face. The shock generated would have made any regular person black out or die. For a being like the Ancient, it was only enough to knock it into the ground.

The shockwave caused the wilderness to quake. From where she hid, Francine could only wonder how it was possible for someone to hold so much power in raw strength alone. However, she could not join the fight yet until Sola gave the signal.

More roots began to sprout from the ground and launched themselves at the boy. Sola evaded all the attacks at such a speed he became a blur. He ducked and dodged and weaved with agility and grace, not receiving so much as a scratch on his body.

A wood like hand shot out of the ground and grabbed him by the ankle. The rest of the Ancients body followed as it leapt into the air, taking Sola along with it. With a heavy swing, it threw him back to the ground, creating another loud boom.

A strange nausea came over the Ancient when it landed. It was using too much Revel to protect against the homo sapiens attacks. If it continued the fight any longer it would be forced to take an involuntary slumber. It was going to end this and end it now.

Sola noticed a strange tension in the air as he got up to his feet. His eyes widened once he saw what the Ancient was doing. With both hands outstretched above it, the entity began to gather as much Revel as it could, shaping it into a humongous orb of emerald energy.

Its now or never He thought to himself.

The sound of his blood flow grew louder as his veins tripled in size. His pupils contracted and his breathing became shallow. A light headed feeling over came him, making him want to pass out but he held on for a moment longer. In one explosive burst of strength, Sola was gone.

The Ancients eyes widened as it saw this. It instinctively threw the orb at the direction it asssumed the male would come from. The energy crashed into the spot but met no resistance, leaving a huge crater on the ground. From above, Sola came soaring down and hit the Ancient in the face. As the two fell, he quickly grabbed its arms and lifted it above his head.

Francine leapt into the sky with her Silver Mercury gun fully charged. The blue light emitted from its core shone like a dwarf star. Once she pulled the trigger a humongous beam of energy flew out at the two. The resulting explosion sent everything in a 3mile radius flying. Trees broke apart into several pieces before completely disintegrating. The crater the Ancient formed quadrupled in size as a blue blast wave knocked Francine back.

When she came to, Francine could barely recognise where she was. The fully charged blast from the Silver Mercury weapon was stronger than they anticipated. As they tried to escape from the Ancient, Sola had proposed the plan.

”Ill hold down the Ancient so you can hit it with your gun. ” He had said.

”Will that kill it? ” She asked.

”It won nearly be enough. As long as the wilderness exists, so will it. It should be enough to put it out of commission long enough for us to escape. ”

”What about you? Youll get caught up in the blast. ”

”Ill be fine. ” Sola had assured. ”Im tougher than I look. ”

Now Francine stood over the impact point of the blast. There was no trace of the Ancient- or Sola.

”What am I going to tell Fólórunsó? ” She whispered.

”Nothing, seeing as hes probably dead. ” A voice answered to her rhetoric.

Behind her stood a large tall man shrowded by a hooded cloak. The only thing she could make out from underneath his hood was his milky white skin and his cruel grin. Surprised, Francine turned around and aimed her gun at the man.

”Who are you?! ” She exclaimed.

”Oh, no one really. ” The man smiled. ”Just someone here whos after the Immortalis kids life. ”

Francines heart skipped a beat. It was no surprise that there were people after Jonathan. As a member of the Immortalis Family many people were after its members for many reasons. As the older members were exceedingly strong and unable to die, the youths who were yet to attain this immortality were targeted, hence the hiring of Sola for protection. Even with a Silver Mercury weapon there were some things Francine could not handle; not on her own.

”Hes not here. ” She said flatly.

”Im fully aware of that. Thats why my partner is already over at his side handling things. ”

Francine bit her lower lip, drawing blood. The young master was in danger. She had no doubt in her mind Fólórunsó had been killed and Jonathan was on his last leg.

”Then why are you here? ”

”Sola, of course! ” He exclaimed. ”Im here to prevent that grey haired bastard from interfering with our plans. I also wanted to have a little bout with him but youve already killed him. I guess Ill just have to manage with killing you. ”

The man let his cloak drop, revealing his muscular body. He was as thick as a tree with his large muscles bulging. His chest was bare and on his hands were two iron studded fingerless gloves made of thick dark brown leather.

Before she could even react, Francine found the studded gloves pressed against her face before she was knocked into a tree. A sickening crack followed her crash as a few of her ribs were broken. Crimson blood filled her mouth as she spat out a couple of teeth.

”I thought youd be stronger since you landed the finishing blow on the Ancient. ” The man said. ”I guess I was wrong. ”

Francine grabbed her Silver Mercury gun and pointed it at her attacker. Its core shone brightly before a strong burst of Revel was fired at him. The blast exploded on contact, creating a huge cloud of dust. Once it cleared the man was revealed to be unharmed.

The girl was in a state of shock at this result. Not even Sola was able to resist an attack from her gun. As the man approached her a slight aura that was barely visible came off his body.

”Im guessing youve never fought a Revel user before. ” The man said as he creapt closer. ”If it were any other kind of Revel user Silver Mercury probably wouldve worked. Unfortunately, you got me instead of them. ”

With one arm around her throat, Francine was lifted into air and slammed into the tree behind her. She desperately clawed at his hands as she gasped for air. The man only tightened his grip, turning her neck and her face red.

A hand gently tapped the mans shoulder which surprised him. He turned to see who it was and got punched in the face. The impact broke his nose and sent him flying a few feet away from Francine. The attacker was none other than Sola. His dark skin was covered in both dirt and a strange metallic liquid that oddly resembled blood.

”Are you alright? ” He asked Francine.

”H-how… ” She stammered.

A loud and boisterous laughter erupted from the man. As he stood, the Revel surrounding him became vividly more visible, resembling a starlit sky as he used its power to heal nose. In an instant, the injury was gone, leaving only the blood stains to verify that it had even happened.

”You never seem to disappoint Sola! ” He exclaimed gleefully. ”Im glad you aren dead. Now, I can do the honours myself! ”

”Darwin Aurst, battle maniac and mercenary. ” Sola said, identifying the attacker. ”I never thought Id meet someone like you so far from the capital. ”

”It seems my reputation precedes me. ” Darwin smiled. ” But so does yours Sola! Ive been anticipating this fight from the moment I agreed to take this job! I came a long way to fight you so try not to disappoint me, will you? ”

Revel surged around the mercenarys fist as he leapt into action.
